The Proposed Enemy Expatriation Act: Sending American Citizens into Exile American Thinker

Sparked by the nation's so-called war on terrorism, the government has been charging full-throttle into another war -- a war on liberty. Drawing on its almost limitless technological arsenal, the government surreptitiously tracks and spies on our every movement, places under surveillance our internet and cell phone communications, and screens our bodies and personal effects.
Instead of standing for the people against these law enforcement abuses of our liberty, Congress has enacted laws such as the USA Patriot Act that undermine, rather than protect, the Bill of Rights. And to a large extent the American public are bystanders, watching this erosion, if not destruction, of American liberty, while being manipulated into believing that the loss of a few rights won't matter to them.
The destructive march against the constitutional ramparts securing our freedoms continued recently with the National Defense Authorization Act, wherein Congress has granted the president unchecked discretionary powers to detain indefinitely American citizens suspected of aiding acts of terrorism, without a warrant, jury trial or any other constitutional safeguards.

Online Piracy Act (SOPA) and the PROTECT IP Act (PIPA)
UPDATE: These bills have been dropped for the moment due to corporate and public pressure.
You may or may not have heard about two pieces of Congressional legislation in the works -- the Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) and the PROTECT IP Act (PIPA) -- but the fact that you're online right now, reading this Meetup.com post means that they could potentially profoundly affect you.
In short, these acts would empower the government to block or restrict websites based on the desires of corporations. It would infringe upon the innovation and growth within the web industry. It would violate many Americans' conception of the Internet as a bastion of free speech, creativity and productivity. And it will very likely pass without citizens taking action against it.
This won't be the last action needed against this legislation. There's nothing more powerful than self-organized people -- particularly constituents -- so get involved with your local Meetup Organizers and members to figure out what you can do together.

Congress is set to debate the Stop Internet Piracy Act (SOPA) and the Protect-IP Act (PIPA), bills designed to let the US government block websites and information from the public.
Companies like Google, Twitter, Yahoo, Ebay, Wikipedia, and Firefox started halting services in protest of the proposed bill.
Not only does this bill let the government restrict free speech, but also does not effectively address the issue of online piracy, the stated intention of the legislation. SOPA and PIPA would give government control of the internet, following a dangerous precedent set by countries like China, Cuba, and North Korea.
