MISSION:
This page, and those within its directory, have been provided as an educational resource only. Grand Quest Wisconsin is not an advocate. Our intent is to point you to organizations that do. Please see our user agreement.
ADVOCACY:
Advocacy is a process which begins with the ability of individuals or organizations to organize community support to communicate a message to a targeted audience.
Despite changes in public attitudes, federal, state and local laws, people continue to face issues that all to commonly address the symptom, not the root cause and their effects. Grand Quest wants to work with you, other advocacy organizations, and the community to advocate for changes and advance causes as well as public policy.
Speak Up, Speak Out! You can help!
Become an Advocate to "speak up, speak out" on issues of importance to you. You can make a real difference by contacting us and your lawmakers which will strengthen our collective voice.
You can also advocate for changes by knowing your legal rights and defending your rights and values. Learn about recent court decisions affecting you. Then chose to make a difference!
To be a good advocate, you need to spend twice as much time listening as you do talking. You will need to listen to your supporters as well as to the elected officials with whom you communicate. The information that you derive from listening will be the basis for your actions.
The Power of Your Voice
Elected officials are being asked to sustain or implement programs and policies by appropriating money through city, state and federal budgets. You know firsthand the profound impact laws, programs, and policies have on the lives of children, their families and your community.
What Is Your Message?
The future of our children and communities lies in how we take care of them and enable them to grow. Your message to elected officials must convey that in today's society, programs and values must help people and families rather than defeat them.
Your goal is to convince your elected officials that it is in the best interest of people and communities they serve that they support community and family programs financially and whole-heartedly to create an ownership society.
It is your responsibility to get the message out. It is the duty of elected officials to respond. That is why we call them public servants.

Divorce |
| Surveys find more people today than ever before that want more out of life than what money can buy, yet, debt is debilitating most of them. For many, they are more than stuck between a rock and a hard place. The rock has rolled on top of them and can't get out from underneath it-- crushing more than their hope.
Something must be done to control credit card and loan interest gouging for starters. I personally know several people whom, out of uncontrollable circumstances, have incurred serious debt due to settling an estate or through the consequences of divorce or mental illness and are unable to get a consolidation loan. There should be a way to make a determination based on considering how one got into debt, to help them get out of debt. An ownership society takes care of others with compassion, respect, and empathy. This can be done while reaping enough profit to keep lenders thriving. What is enough punishment? Wearing a crown of thorns and a severe thrashing?

There must be accountability in the choices we make. Especially those with implications effecting others. I do believe there needs to reform in the divorce laws-- going as far as doing away with no-fault divorce. Marriage is both a covenant and a contract, therefore, should be treated as such when breaking it.
This is a complicated issue and one few in the legal community care to address. Divorce is certainly ugly enough just the way it is under current no-fault law. How will anyone find a lawyer or attorney to battle the many cases which take years to finalize, much less afford to-- emotionally and financially. Meanwhile, good people and their families continue to struggle in a society which fosters uncaring citizenship. Truly disheartening. |
| "get as much as you can-- from who you can-- when you can" ...is this a society we want to be a part of? |
